Shoe companies partnering with Lucasfilm for officially-licensed footwear is nothing new. Adidas has been leading the charge lately, with their Yoda Stan Smiths and extensive collection featuring The Mandalorian. Sometimes, though, the correlation between the shoemaker and Star Wars is a bit more… subtle. Take for instance the latest offering from Converse. The shoe itself has nothing to do with the galaxy far, far away. The model they’re using to sell it, however, immediately invokes thoughts of The Clone Wars character Asajj Ventress.

Here’s the official description for the new shoe:
Southern California native Rick Owens has revolutionized form and function throughout his career. By rearticulating classic pieces and high-end luxury style through a rebellious lens, he emerged from the glam-rock and grunge underground to become one of fashion’s essential iconoclasts. His DRKSHDW diffusion line, launched in 2005, blends punk edge with couture-like sophistication.
The aesthetic is all about disrupting formality—embracing traditional structure and then blowing it up. Rick Owens crafts a Chuck 70 unlike any other. And it’s only the beginning for Converse x DRKSHDW.
Converse Invokes Asajj Ventress of Star Wars: The Clone Wars
Granted, if you flip through the shoemaker’s post, the rest of the images bear a little less resemblance. Still, the initial image immediately conjures thoughts of everyone’s favorite Night Sister from the animated Star Wars series, both in facial apperance and attire. Asajj Ventress appeared in multiple seasons of The Clone Wars, first as Dooku’s apprentice. When he abandoned her in favor of Savage Opress, she turned to bounty hunting. Ultimately she’d end up part of some unlikely parings with the likes of Boba Fett, Ahsoka Tano, and later Jedi Master Quinlan Vos.
It’s kind of fitting, really, that the primary image for the new Converse shoe bears a striking resemblance to the character. Plus, as the shoemaker notes, the shoe’s aesthetic is all about “disrupting formality—embracing traditional structure and then blowing it up.” What did Ventress do throughout The Clone Wars, if not that?
The new x DRKSHDW will be available July 27 at 10AM EST on Converse.com.
All seasons of The Clone Wars are available on Disney+.
