Apparently, Daisy Ridley really connected with Rey back when she was playing her in the Star Wars Sequel Trilogy. It’s all right there in the book, you see.
In the upcoming new book about the making of the Sequel Trilogy: Star Wars: The Age of Resistance – The Official Collector’s Edition, courtesy of Digital Spy, we see Daisy Ridley speak about her experiences playing Rey. Apparently, she felt a personal connection to the character she was playing, especially in terms of family. Or rather, the complicated nature of family. Specifically, Ridley said:
Family is what Star Wars is all about. The family thing translated everywhere. Even on set, it felt like a family. It’s that feeling of bonding, everywhere. Rey is trying to find her place in this world in the same way I was trying to find my place in the world. The similarities were really nice. Because I felt so welcomed, and taken in, and people seemed to care how I felt, that translated into Rey. She suddenly had these people who cared about her, and she was finding her place within that.
Daisy Ridley also went on to talk about how she was really into playing Rey. Apparently, she actually trained “four days a week, five hours a day” just to give herself the right look and build to match a scavenger who’d been fighting her entire life just to survive. I don’t know about you, but I’d call that dedicated. Regardless of your feelings toward Rey, you have to admit that Ridley put her all into playing her.

Daisy Ridley felt a deep personal connection with Rey while playing her in Star Wars, especially in terms of family and find their places in this world/galaxy. Also, according to Star Wars: The Age of Resistance – The Official Collector’s Edition, Ridley trained hard just to get the look right for Rey. At the very least, you can appreciate all the hard work and determination she put into playing Rey.
