Did you know that Ghostbusters: Afterlife will be a reboot/sequel to the original films? At least, it will when it eventually releases. Unfortunately, it looks like we’ll have to wait a bit longer for that to happen.

Ghostbustes: Afterlife poster.
Ectomobile, come back! We just want to see you again!

Recently, Sony announced yet another delay for the release of Ghostbusters: Afterlife. Before, it had a release date of March 5, 2021. Now the new release date will be on June 11, 2021. This means that we now have to wait an additional 3 months before we can finally see most of the original Ghostbusters (not Egon Spengler though, may he rest in peace) back in action.

Why the delay? Apparently, Sony wants to release the film in time for the summer box office season, which means more movie-goers, which means more money for Sony. Coincidentally, this release delay also means that Ghostbusters: Afterlife shares the same June release as the original Ghostbusters film. In fact, the two films now share the share week for release. I guess Sony really wants to build up the hype for this reboot/sequel that badly.

Ghostbusters: Afterlife: Who You Gonna Call?

I feel like this film is one big tribute to Egon Spengler/Harold Ramis.

We were supposed to see Ghostbusters: Afterlife in theaters this summer on July 10, 2020. Unfortunately, a certain pandemic saw to it that the film got delayed to its then-current release date March 5, 2021; which is now unfortunately no longer the case.

It’s a shame, really. The plot for Ghostbusters: Afterlife looked interesting. I guess we’ll just have to wait nearly 8 months as of this writing to find out more about Egon Spengler’s grandkids, apparently. As well as hope that Afterlife won’t be like that other Ghostbusters movie. You know, the one that didn’t even have the original Ghostbusters in it? And did so badly that the studio abandoned all plans for a sequel and instead opted to do Afterlife instead?

The ghostbusters no one wants to talk about.
Who’re you not gonna call?

Yeah, let’s not talk about that one anymore.

Ghostbusters: Afterlife will now release in theaters on June 11, 2021. Seriously Sony, I know you want your hype and money and all, but we just want to see the original Ghostbusters in action again. Let this be the last release delay…hopefully.
