Malakai Black’s AEW exit could be coming soon. Fans haven’t seen the star inside the squared circle since AEW Full Gear last year. The House of Black has been wrestling on AEW programming. So, there’s just a lot of confusion after this long time away from the ring. New reports offer some clarity on what the future holds for Malakai Black and this promotion.
Fightful Select reports that Malakai Black is believed to have completed his AEW contractual obligations. AEW President Tony Khan previously alluded to the contract being up in 2027. But, the recent developments have fans wondering if something has shifted in the meantime. There was an option for Black to extend with AEW after 2025. So, maybe the star opted to go in another direction.
Black is still AEW roster page online. That fact only encourages speculation. (The promotion updates this page regularly to keep the talent current with what’s going on during televised events) Hopefully, the weeks ahead offer some clarity about what’s going on with Black and AEW.
Malakai Black Addresses Career Speculation
Black took to social media to address the random speculation about his career. With the radio silence surrounding his contract status, some viewers believed The House of Black leader was retiring. Despite all that chatter, Black stepped to social media to clear the air about his future in the ring.
He wrote on Instagram: “Here we are once more a match down and again everybody is saying ‘he’s retiring – he’s retiring because of his injury. I’m not injured nor am I retiring nor am I leaving.”
“I feel this happens every match I have, and I don’t understand how many times you’re going to say these things, and then them not happening and people still fall for that. I haven’t been injured in more than three years. I’m referring to my back injury, of course, and I only posted about that after it was already done.”
“If you would’ve read the post, you would’ve seen that, and not read what other people have written about it. I’m fine; I’ve been fine for the longest time. I would really appreciate it if that stuff stops, man. If I’m gonna retire, you’re gonna hear it from me and not after Adam [Cole] cuts a promo and says ‘thank you for the match’ because that’s all it was, so thank you.”
