Despite some competition, Venom: The Last Dance didn’t budge from its first-place spot at the box office.
Venom: The Last Dance Has Teeth At The Box Office
Venom: The Last Dance maintained its top position at the box office for the second weekend, earning an impressive $26.1 million in domestic ticket sales according to Box Office Mojo. This brought the film’s total domestic revenue to $90 million, making it a major draw despite limited competition from new releases.
This final installment in the Venom franchise, featuring Tom Hardy, has captured audiences with its high-energy action and comedy as the movie has a B- CinemaScore. With solid marketing and anticipation built around its (supposed) grand finale, Venom: The Last Dance successfully was able to maintain its lead from last weekend.
The film’s success aligns with the ongoing trend of superhero and action movies dominating the box office, particularly those with established characters and fan bases. We’ve seen some superhero movies fail at the box office, but Venom: The Last Dance has just the right amount of recognition whilst still being entertaining. As the film continues to perform well, it highlights the enduring appeal of the superhero genre.
The Rest Of The Box Office
At the box office this past weekend, The Wild Robot rose to second place from third, bringing in $7.55 million at the box office, a 10.9% increase from the previous week. Smile 2 slipped from second to third with a weekend gross of $6.8 million, a decline of 28.6%, as it reached a cumulative total of $52.7 million at the box office. The horror sequel continues to do well for Paramount Pictures despite facing steeper competition. The film is performing slightly better internationally.
Conclave kept its fourth-place spot from the previous week, earning $5.3 million with a modest drop of 19.7% from the previous week. The new release was Here, it opened in fifth place with $5 million. It opened in fewer theatres than other new releases but seemed to keep interest. If Sony decides to expand its release it could do quite well if it maintains that momentum at the box office.
Next Weekend’s Predictions
Next weekend will see the release of both Heretic and The Best Christmas Pageant Ever.
Neither film is set to make huge traction at the box office. Heretic is tracking for $8 million to $12 million but its marketing is a bit scarce and it doesn’t have the wider appeal of a holiday movie like The Best Christmas Pageant Ever which is tracking for a $6 million to $12 million opening.
I predict that Venom: The Last Dance will stay in first; The Best Christmas Pageant Ever will come in second with $10 million, and Heretic will be in third with $9 million.
As always, we’ll find out next week!
