God of War is perhaps one of the most famous PlayStation franchises. Some might even say that it’s infamous, actually. If you’ve played even one of the original trilogy of games in the franchise, then you’ll know what I mean. Regardless though, there’s no denying that the franchise is one of the most successful PlayStation games around. Not least of which, in my opinion, due to the 2018 reboot. Which, among other things, gave the video game series a rich and meaningful story, as well as making Kratos himself a fascinating deconstruction of his cringey backstory.
It may very well be that God of War reboot that inspired the development of its TV adaptation. Alas, it’s an adaptation that is currently plagued with no small amount of development hell. A hell that has thus far lasted about 2.5 years, and has seen not only multiple rewrites of its script, but also the exit of its entire original creative team. A team that included showrunner/executive producer Rafe Judkins and exec producers Hawk Ostby and Mark Fergus.
Without such talent, it seemed like this God of War TV adaptation was going to just languish in development hell. Fortunately, there is now a new showrunner to take up the reins from the old team. Who is this showrunner, you might ask? Well, have you ever heard of Ronald D. Moore?
God of War TV Adaptation: Ronald D. Moore Details
Deadline has just revealed that Ronald D. Moore is now the new showrunner for the upcoming God of War TV adaptation for Prime Video. That’s not all though. He is now also the writer and executive producer for the same. Note that Moore has previously written for Star Trek, the 2003 Battlestar Galactica reboot, and For All Mankind for Apple TV+. With that kind of history, it sounds as though this God of War adaptation is in good hands.
That’s not all though. Ronald D. Moore will be working alongside executive producers Cory Barlog and Jeff Ketcham from video game developer Santa Monica Studio (God of War), who is also the creative director. Asad Qizilbash and Carter Swan from PlayStation Productions, as well as Hermen Hulst from Sony Interactive Entertainment and Roy Lee from Vertigo will also be executive producers.
Aside from that though, we have no other information about this God of War TV adaptation. Not even a release window since it’s been in development hell for so long. We’ll just have to wait for them to give us that at a later date.
Tune back in to THS to find out more about God of War and other adaptations of video games when we do.
