It’s been quite the journey for Salem’s Lot, the remake of the classic Stephen King novel and film from 1979. It comes from director Gary Dauberman. Vanity Fair had the first look images and details about the upcoming release. It releases on Max, straight-to-streaming, in October 2024.
Here’s what Gary had to say about the film.
“You could do a very dry version of this movie, but that’s just not my personality. It’s trying to ride that wave’s ups and downs. You’re having fun with it, and then you can have a scare, and then you’re having fun again. Hopefully it feels like a complete ride at the end.”
Salem’s Lot was originally supposed to release in theaters on September 9th, 2022, but was bumped to April 2023, and now will finally release this October. The film is set in 1975, which is when King’s book was first published. Here’s the synopsis.
“Haunted by an incident from his childhood, author Ben Mears returns to his hometown of Jerusalem’s Lot in search of inspiration for his next book, only to discover the town is being preyed upon by a bloodthirsty vampire and his loyal servant.”
It stars Lewis Pullman, Makenzie Leigh, Alfre Woodard, Bill Camp, John Benjamin Hickey, Nicholas Crovetti, Jordan Preston Carter, William Sadler, Spencer Treat Clark, Cade Woodward, Debra Christofferson, and Pilou Asbaek.
The original Salem’s Lot was directed by Tobe Hooper in 1979, and also had a mini-series version back in 2004.
Here’s the full batch of first look images from Vanity Fair.
We’ll have to see how this new Stephen King adaptation turns out when its streaming on Max in October 2024.
