Samara Weaving has already shown her mettle as a modern day scream queen in movies like Ready Or Not, The Babysitter, and Scream VI. Now, she’s taking her talents to the movie Azrael. The new film from IFC Films is set after the Rapture, where the only humans left are forced to stay mute. It’s directed by E. L. Katz and written by Simon Barrett. It stars Weaving, Natahan Stewart-Jarrett, Vic Carmen Sonne, Katariina Unt, and Sebastian Bull Sarning. It’ll release in theaters on September 27th, 2024. Check out the trailer above.

In a world in which no one speaks, a mysterious, devout community hunts down a young woman named Azrael (Samara Weaving) who has escaped their imprisonment. Recaptured by its ruthless leaders, she is to be sacrificed to pacify an evil which resides deep within the surrounding wilderness – but Azrael will stop at nothing to ensure her own freedom and survival. From the seeds of this gritty, relentless parable of sacrifice and salvation, comes an immersive, real-time, action horror tale from the visionary minds of Simon Barrett and E.L. Katz.

IFC Films has been on a hell of a run as of late with releases like Azrael, Late Night With The Devil, Arcadian, and more. Their partnership with Shudder has been a fruitful one with plenty of their films coming out in theaters and then heading to the preeminent horror streaming service for fans to discover and enjoy.
