“Me” is ready to hit Apple TV+ on July 12. When we think of shows and films showcasing superpowers we often think of the battles between good and evil, how those powers are used to fight bad guys and prevail as the hero in the story. In “Me” we follow the story of Ben, played by Lucian-River Chauhan as he battles an array of changes in his life. If being a 13-year-old wasn’t enough, Ben has discovered he has superpowers. He is also adjusting to his new blended family, including a new step-sister.
A CHAT WITH BARRY L. LEVY
With the release of “Me” on July 12, I spoke with Barry L. Levy. He is the showrunner, executive producer, and writer for the series. During our conversation, we talk about his inspiration behind the series. As well as the importance of being about to empathize with the transitions young people have at the age of Ben. It was a great interview that you can check out below!
MORE ON “ME”
“Me” follows a 12-year-old kid named Ben who is in the throes of middle school (complete with bullies, crushes, and school dances!) as he adjusts to a newly blended family, AND just realizes he has superpowers.
Throughout the 10-episode season, Ben will go on a journey of self-discovery about what having superpowers truly means. He finds an ally in his step-sister Max, who helps him harness these powers and uncover the secrets behind the mysteries and tragedies of his community… all while trying to come to terms with what it means to be Ben.
An elevated cinematic coming-of-age story, “Me” puts a new spin on the superhero origin story. It’s one whose vantage point is grounded in the growing pains of real-life adolescence. As well as the contemporary world of blended families and diverse communities. Filled with valuable lessons about self-discovery, family, friendship, and identity all wrapped up in an exciting superhero tale, this series is the perfect summer watch for kids of all ages.
