It might not be Spaceballs 2: The Search For More Money, but a sequel to the classic Mel Brooks comedy is coming from Amazon MGM Studios. Josh Gad is set to star in the film with Mel Brooks on board to produce the film. Josh Greenbaum will direct the film with a screenplay by Benji Samit, Dan Hernandez, and Josh Gad. As for plot details, there are none currently. The original film from 1987 is a classic comedy from Mel Brooks that starred Bill Pullman, John Candy, Daphne Zuniga, Rick Moranis, and Mel Brooks. It was a parody of not just Star Wars, but Star Trek, and also Alien.
Gad is best known for his work on Broadway in The Book of Mormon and as the voice of Olaf the Snowman in the Frozen movies. He’s also making waves as a director for the upcoming biopic of Chris Farley starring Paul Walter Hauser as the iconic actor.
For those ready to groan and complain about making a sequel to a classic movie, Brooks is no stranger to that. Last year, he wrote and produced HIstory of the World, Part II which was a follow-up to his 1981 comedy. Brooks is one of the most illustrious and accomplished actors, directors, and producers in Hollywood’s history. He’s an EGOT and one of the most prolific comic personlities ever.
