Another day, another price hike. Peacock will officially raise the price of its streaming plans this summer.
Here’s a breakdown of the platform’s new prices and when they go into effect:
- Peacock Premium (the ad-supported tier) increases by $2 per month, or $20 per year. New prices: $7.99/month or $79.99/year.
- Peacock Premium Plus (mostly ad-free tier) also increases by $2 per month, or $20 per year. New price: $13.99/month or $139.99/year.
- Price increases go into effect for new subscribers starting July 18.
- Price increases go into effect for existing subscribers on their first billing date after August 17.
In addition to affecting current subscribers, Peacock’s price hikes will hit anyone hoping to subscribe for this year’s summer Olympics. The 2024 Paris Olympics will begin a week after the increase for new subscribers on July 26. Peacock plans to deliver more Olympics coverage than ever before, with over 5,000 hours of programming planned.
The price increases demonstrate NBCUniversal’s ongoing attempts to make streaming profitable. Last year, Peacock removed its free-with-ads subscription tier. Its Premium Plus tier also includes some ads on “a small amount of programming” per the streamer, across channels, events, shows, and movies.
At the end of the first quarter of this year, Peacock counted 34 million subscribers – a net gain of 3 million subscribers in Q1. However, this still places the NBCUniversal platform behind the likes of Netflix and Disney+.
Peacock’s new prices align with the current rates for Disney+ (also $7.99 for ad-supported and $13.99 for ad-free tier).
So, will Peacock’s price hikes leave you abandoning this streaming ship? Or are they moderate enough to keep you around for NBCUniversal’s content? Let us know in the comments below.
