Hey everybody, have you heard the news? Joe Bob is back in town. This week, Joe Bob and Darcy showed off the classic film, The Toxic Avenger.
Adventures With Toxie At The Last Drive-In
The episode opened with Joe Bob and Darcy discussing comfort food and grilled cheese before going into this classic of exploitation films. I’m not sure if the connection between grilled cheese and The Toxic Avenger was overly strong aside from the comfort food/comfort film comparison.
Still, the movie itself is a comfort film and fun to watch. There are certainly some elements of the film that are poorly dated and offensive by today’s standards but the film is fun to watch with a crowd; and if anything, that’s the strength of The Last Drive-In. You get to watch movies with a group. Whether you watch with just Joe Bob and Darcy or with the extended mutant family, it certainly enriches the experience.
Lloyd Kaufman Entertained As Always
The episode did feature a guest in Troma president, Lloyd Kaufman. If you’ve ever heard Lloyd speak you know he’s a very knowledgeable and interesting interviewee. This was no exception here. Lloyd had a good repertoire with Joe Bob and Darcy and undoubtedly did a great job of highlighting the Toxic Avenger 4K collection. Great salesmanship from Lloyd!
It’s just unfortunate that Lloyd had such little time in the episode. It would’ve been nice to have a bit more time with him.
Conclusion
All in all, this was a fun and entertaining episode. Featuring a fun movie and a great interview, this is what we like to see at The Last Drive-In.
