As we slip further into 2024, we’re also slipping a little closer to shared madness… aka, Joker: Folie à Deux.
The sequel to 2019’s critically acclaimed feature starring Joaquin Phoenix will debut later this year. Now, fans are finally getting a closer look at the upcoming film. During CinemaCon, Warner Bros. revealed the first official trailer for Joker: Folie à Deux. Check it out below:
The sequel film will further explore Phoenix’s transformation into the iconic DC villain. It will also introduce Lady Gaga as Joker’s psychiatrist/paramor Harley Quinn. The film’s title, Folie à Deux, is an expression referring to shared psychosis.
Though Warner Bros. is keeping plot specifics tightly under wraps, we do know the film will function as a jukebox musical. Variety reports the movie will feature “at least 15 reinterpretations of very well-known songs”.
In addition to Phoenix and Gaga, the cast also includes Brendan Gleeson, Catherine Keener, Jacob Lofland, and Harry Lawtey. Zazie Beetz will also reprise her role as Sophie from the first film.
Todd Phillips and Scott Silver, who wrote the first Joker film, also penned this sequel. Phillips also directs both features.
The first Joker film brought in over a billion dollars at the box office. It also received 11 Academy Award nominations, ultimately winning Best Actor for Phoenix and Best Original Score.
Joker: Folie à Deux premieres in theaters October 4.
