When The End of Evangelion first premiered in Japanese theaters on July 19, 1997; it was certainly a…unique anime film. Directors Hideaki Anno (who also wrote for the anime film) and Kazuya Tsurumaki intended this anime film to serve as the conclusion to the 1995 anime series Neon Genesis Evangelion. If you’ve watched that anime or have even heard of it, then you know this anime film finale is going to be just as weird, creepy, and disturbing. Indeed, that anime film checks off all of those boxes, with a dash of controversy to go with it.

Yet, despite that controversy, The End of Evangelion is frequently at the top of lists of best films in history. Or maybe it’s even because they went to controversial lengths. Who knows? In any case though, now you know why GKIDS is so interested in this anime film. Especially since they’re giving it another theatrical run, this time in NA theaters. Don’t believe me? Then why not check out GKIDS’ trailer for this limited theatrical run below, and see just how messed up it is for yourself?

The End of Evangelion: GKIDS Details

Man, that scream. That unholy scream.

GKIDS is proud to announce that they will be bringing The End of Evangelion to North American theaters. Specifically: select NA theaters will screen this critically acclaimed yet disturbing anime film at event showings on March 17 & March 20, 2024. Screenings will be in the original Japanese language with English subtitles, as it should be. These screenings, by the way, will mark the first time this anime film will receive a NA theatrical run, so you don’t want to miss it.
