Remember those “Can you hear me now?” Verizon commercials? This promo for Problemista is sort of like that. Also sort of like when I try to connect to a Discord voice chat and can only hear the quack effect from the soundboard. Only in this case, Tilda Swinton is calling.

Check out the strangely intriguing promo for the A24 film below.

While oddly compelling, this promo doesn’t really tell you much about Problemista as a film. So, here’s the synopsis:

Alejandro is an aspiring toy designer from El Salvador, struggling to bring his unusual ideas to life in New York City. As time on his work visa runs out, a job assisting an erratic art-world outcast becomes his only hope to stay in the country and realize his dream. From writer/director Julio Torres comes a surreal adventure through the equally treacherous worlds of New York City and the U.S. Immigration system.

Writer-director Torres also stars in the film. Torres received four Emmy nominations for his writing contributions to Saturday Night Live. He created the HBO series Los Espookys, and recently lent his voice to the animated feature Nimona.

Torres’ fellow cast members in the film include Tilda Swinton, RZA, Isabella Rossellini, Larry Owens, Catalina Saavedra, and Greta Lee.

Problemista premiered at SXSW in 2023. However, industry strikes ultimately delayed the film’s wide release. Now, the movie will officially hit theaters this March. Problemista opens in select theaters March 1, with a nationwide distribution kicking off March 22.

Until then, check back to THS for more updates.
