The BAFTA Film Awards announced an exciting host for their next ceremony: David Tennant.
Best known for his tenure on Doctor Who, the Scottish actor will host the awards on February 18. The BAFTA Film Awards are considered the U.K.’s biggest and most prestigious award for cinema.
“I am delighted to have been asked to host the EE BAFTA Film Awards and help celebrate the very best of this year’s films and the many brilliant people who bring them to life,” said Tennant.
Tennant recently reappeared on Doctor Who for the show’s series of 60th anniversary specials. His other recent credits include a second turn as the demon Crowley in Good Omens, as well as lending his voice to the Star Wars series Ahsoka. Tennant’s decades-spanning career also includes appearances in the Harry Potter franchise, Marvel’s Jessica Jones, DuckTales, and detective series Broadchurch, among many others.
Tennant is also a stage actor, and particularly known for performing the works of Shakespeare. Currently, he portrays Macbeth at the Donmar Warehouse.
“We are over the moon that David Tennant will be our host for the 2024 EE BAFTA Film Awards,” said BAFTA CEO Jane Millichip. “His warmth, charm, and mischievous wit will make it a must-watch show next month for our guests at the Royal Festival Hall and the millions of people watching at home.”
The BAFTA Film Awards include 24 categories. The longlists for each released today, with official nominations set to release on January 18. Former Rising Star award nominees Naomi Ackie and Kingsley Ben-Adir will announce the nominees.
Tennant will host the awards ceremony a month later on February 18 at the Royal Festival Hall in London. The BAFTA Film Awards will broadcast on BBC One and iPlayer in the U.K., and BritBox in the U.S.
