Well, it looks like another year will go by without a new Star Wars movie. 2024 doesn’t currently have any movies scheduled. The last time we had a movie in theaters for Star Wars was Star Wars: Rise of Skywalker. That also coincidentally marks the last time Adam Driver was in a Star Wars film. According to a new interview with the Smartless podcast, Driver won’t be returning for any future projects. Here’s what he had to say on the podcast:
“They’re doing stuff, but not with me. I’m not doing any more”
For people who are fans of Kylo Ren, it’s pretty disappointing. There’s plenty to explore with his character before the events of the sequel trilogy, but his arc was finished up in those films. As for other Star Wars films, we’re still waiting on more news on any of the films. We know that there’s a movie coming out that is set after Rise of Skywalker with Daisy Ridley returning as Rey. There are other films like Taika Waititi’s film, and James Mangold’s film about the origins of the force. As for details about these films, we don’t have any. The biggest update we got was at Star Wars Celebration 2023 earlier this year.
There are plenty of other Star Wars projects in the works, like Skeleton Crew and The Acolyte, in addition to Dave Filoni’s new project about The Mandalorian universe.
Star Wars: The Acolyte will premiere on Disney+ in 2024. The series is a mystery-thriller that will take viewers into a galaxy of shadowy secrets and emerging dark-side powers in the final days of the High Republic era. A former Padawan reunites with her Jedi Master to investigate a series of crimes, but the forces they confront are more sinister than they ever anticipated. Star Wars: Skeleton Crew tells the story of four kids who find themselves lost in the vastness of the galaxy trying to find their way home. This series will arrive on the platform in 2024.
As with almost every person involved with Star Wars in one way or another, never say never. Harrison Ford returned in The Force Awakens, Hayden Christensen returned for Obi-Wan Kenobi, and others have come back after saying they wouldn’t return.
So, what do you think of Adam Driver and his comments on Star Wars?
