Godzilla fans might be aware that Godzilla Minus One made a huge splash when it made its red carpet debut on October 18, 2023, in Toho Cinema’s theater inside the Shinjuku Toho Building in (where else) Shinjuku, Japan. In fact, you could say that director Takashi Yamazaki made a kaiju-sized splash with this latest entry in the film franchise. Critics and audiences alike have been losing their minds over it. On Rotten Tomatoes, for example, critics over 102 reviews have given it 97%. Audiences were even more generous and gave it 98% over 1000+ reviews. No matter how you look at it, this latest Godzilla film is as massive a success story as Godzilla itself. It’s no wonder that when it hit NA theaters on December 1, 2023; this film broke some box office records. Just as much as Godzilla broke postwar Japan in that very film.

Godzilla Minus One: Record-Breaking Details

Aww, no Atomic Breath in this trailer? Bummer. Fortunately, we know that will come in the film proper.

Deadline has just released a report revealing that the NA theatrical debut of Godzilla Minus One over the weekend of December 2-3, 2023 was a huge hit. So much so that it broke box office records in North America. Specifically? According to them: this latest entry in the long-running kaiju film series managed to gross $14.36 million just on that opening weekend.

Apparently, this alone now makes Godzilla Minus One the highest-grossing live-action Japanese film in North American box office history. To celebrate this achievement, Rotten Tomatoes has decided to release that brand new clip from the film above on YouTube. The clip is only about a minute long, but at least we see a train flying around after the big kaiju tossed it, as well as the kaiju itself stomping around all the ant-like people beneath it. Already, this makes it a good clip.

Tune back into THS to find out more Godzilla Minus One news when we hear it.
