A runaway mother, a kidnapped dog, and $80k in gambling debt. What are a couple of estranged sisters to do…besides turn to a gameshow for help? Get ready for Quiz Lady.

Here’s the official synopsis for Quiz Lady from 20th Century Studios:

In Quiz Lady, a brilliant but tightly wound, gameshow-obsessed young woman, Anne (Awkwafina), and her estranged, train-wreck of a sister Jenny (Sandra Oh), must work together to help cover their mother’s gambling debts. When Anne’s beloved dog is kidnapped, they set out on a wild, cross-country trek to get the cash the only way they know how: by turning Anne into a bona-fide gameshow champion. 

The trailer looks plenty fun, and even draws you in with a couple of role reversals; Oh gets to take on the role of the wild, enthusiastic, messy sister, while Awkwafina plays her more serious and reserved counterpart. In addition to Oh and Awkwafina, the film also stars Jason Schwartzman, Holland Taylor, Tony Hale, and Will Ferrell.

Quiz Lady comes from writer Jen D’Angelo (Hocus Pocus 2) and director Jessica Yu, who previously worked with Oh on Grey’s Anatomy. 

The film will make its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival September 9. Then, it will debut on streaming later this year. US viewers can stream Quiz Lady on Hulu November 3. Latin American viewers can catch it on Star+, and all other territories can stream the film on Disney+.
