With a historical track record of success at the Box Office, The Equalizer franchise continued its success with the 3rd film this weekend.
Labor Day Box Office Haul
As per Box Office Mojo, The Equalizer 3 brought in $34.5 Million and put it in the top spot this weekend. This put it slightly ahead of the first film’s $34.1 Million opening, but behind the second film’s $36 Million opening. Still, the movie is the second highest-grossing film during the Labor Day weekend. A weekend that typically sees low turnouts in theatres as people tend to go camping, party, and do other things aside from seeing movies.
Barbie still came in strong in the second place spot, earning $10.6 Million. The movie has now overtaken The Super Mario Bros. Movie to become the highest-grossing film of the year.
Blue Beetle still held on strong with $7.3 Million in the third place spot. This puts it at $100 Million worldwide, and it’s now expected to outperform Shazam! Fury of the Gods $133 Million worldwide in total.
Gran Turismo saw a significant dropoff this weekend with it losing 62.4% of its box office from the previous week; placing it in the fourth place spot. The movie is sitting at $80 Million worldwide, which is well past its $60 Million budget. However, it’s unlikely that the movie will be able to exceed $100 Million at the box office at this current rate.
Oppenheimer placed fifth with $5.5 Million.
The Nun II Could Go Either Way At the Box Office
The Nun II is the big release next weekend, and while it’s tracking for $30 Million, that could go either way. Traditionally Warner Bros. Discovery has had some success in its post-Labor Day weekend box office, with movies like IT, IT: Chapter 2, and The Nun performing well. However, those were arguably marketed stronger than this sequel which hasn’t been marketed as strongly as others, with its trailer falling well behind other Warner Bros. Discovery trailers like The Flash and The Meg 2 in terms of viewership.
