Sony may not have been able to promote Gran Turismo with the movie’s talent, but the movie still did OK at this weekend’s box office.

Barely Beating Barbie At The Box Office

Gran Turismo

As per Box Office Mojo, Gran Turismo brought in $17.3 Million across its opening weekend. Which was only $200,000 more than Barbie, which was in the second-place spot with $17.1 Million.

Barbie is quickly on its way to breaking Warner Bros.’s record as the highest-grossing global release. It’s currently at $1.34 Billion and, the current record holder is Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2, which stands at $1.342 Billion. No doubt it’ll achieve this in the next week or two.

The Rest Of The Box Office

Blue Beetle

Blue Beetle came in third, bringing in $12.8 Million. That is a 49% drop from last week’s box office. While it’s still a sizable drop. It is still a lower drop-off than The Flash, which dropped 72.5% in its second week, or Shazam! Fury of the Gods dropped 69% in its second week. Audiences are still going to see the movie, which could be attributed to the film being better than those previous movies and having a strong Latino representation.

Oppenheimer and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem rounded out the fourth and fifth place spots with $9 Million and $6.1 Million, respectively.

The Equalizer Looks To Keep It’s Box Office Streak Going

The Equalizer 3 is the big release next weekend and looks to bring in $30-$40 Million over the 4-day long weekend. The previous movies made a respectable box office haul. The Equalizer made $192.9 million off a $55 Million budget, and its sequel made $190.3 million off a $77 Million budget. So it’s safe to expect that even with no talent to promote the movie, the movie will do reasonably at the box office.

We’ll find out next week how it all shapes up!
