Ahead of its July 21 release, Universal Pictures posted a five-minute opening at Christopher Nolan’s new historical thriller, Oppenheimer.
The clip shows Cillian Murphy as J. Robert Oppenheimer and teases the story behind the atomic bomb as well as the subsequent consequences he faced for its creation.
Written and directed by Christopher Nolan, Oppenheimer is an IMAX®-shot epic thriller about the pulse-pounding paradox of the enigmatic man who must risk destroying the world in order to save it.
Cillian Murphy is joined by Oscar-winner Matt Damon who plays General Leslie Groves Jr., director of the Manhattan Project, Emily Blunt as J Robert’s wife, biologist and botanist Katherine “Kitty” Oppenheimer, and Robert Downey, Jr. as Lewis Strauss, a founding commissioner of the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission.
Florence Pugh stars as Jean Tatlock, Josh Hartnett plays Ernest Lawrence, Benny Safdie appears as Edward Teller, and Michael Angarano is Robert Serber. Additional cast includes Gary Oldman, Dane DeHaan, Alden Ehrenreich, Jack Quaid, Josh Peck, David Krumholtz, Dylan Arnold, Devon Bostick, and Matthew Modine.
The film is based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning book “American Prometheus: The Triumph and Tragedy of J. Robert Oppenheimer,” by Kai Bird and the late Martin J. Sherwin. Christopher Nolan and Emma Thomas are producing through their Syncopy banner and Atlas Entertainment’s Charles Roven.
