Stranger Things 5 might be in limbo right now because of the ongoing Writer’s Strike, but there’s some more Stranger Things content coming your way later this year. The play Stranger Things: The First Shadow promises to hold keys to the fifth and final season, according to its official Twitter account.

They showed off a new video that gives us when and where the play takes place and some new clues about the plot. It doesn’t however, show off what connects Stranger Things 5 to this play. It takes place in Hawkins, Indiana in 1959 “before the world turned upside down.”

Stranger Things creators The Duffer Brothers and Jack Thorne and Kate Trefry wrote the play. It’s directed by Stephen Daldry and the show is playing at the Phoenix Theater in London, UK.

Here’s the plot synopsis.

“Hawkins, 1959: a regular town with regular worries. Young Jim Hopper’s car won’t start, Bob Newby’s sister won’t take his radio show seriously and Joyce Maldonado just wants to graduate and get the hell out of town. When new student Henry Creel arrives, his family finds that a fresh start isn’t so easy… and the shadows of the past have a very long reach.

“Brought to life by a multi-award-winning creative team, who take theatrical storytelling and stagecraft to a whole new dimension, this gripping new adventure will take you right back to the beginning of the Stranger Things story – and may hold the key to the end.”
