Lord of the Rings: Gollum has officially released for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series Consoles, and it’s not pretty. The developers of the game, Daedalic Entertainment, have had to apologize for the underwhelming launch of the game. They’re currently working on patches and fixes for some of the issues in the game.
“At Daedalic, we understand that a game’s success relies on the enjoyment and satisfaction of its players. We genuinely value your feedback and have been actively listening to your voices, reading your comments, and analyzing the constructive criticism and suggestions you have provided.
Our development team has been working diligently to address the bugs and technical issues many of you experienced. We are committed to providing you with patches that will allow you to enjoy the game to its fullest potential.“
The game has received scathing reviews for not only the technical issues but the overall gameplay feeling middling and dated. It was delayed multiple times due to Pandemic related and technical issues, and it looks like those delays didn’t help the game overall. It looks like we’ll be getting a patch soon to at least alleviate some of the technical aspects. However, patches can’t fix camera issues, gameplay issues, and other things with the game.
It’s a sad thing these days when so many games release unfinished or unpolished. It’s a state of the industry that games devs are forced to crunch to get things out as fast as possible instead of trying to get the best product. A Nintendo Switch version of the game is in development, but if the base games look this poor, that game doesn’t stand a chance.
