Warner Bros has released the official trailer for up upcoming The Color Purple Musical movie Adaptation. The musical is based on the 1982 Pulitzer Prize-winning novel of the same name by Alice Walker. The musical tells the story of Celie, a young African-American woman who is abused by her father and then forced into an arranged marriage to a man who also abuses her. Celie finds solace in her sister Nettie, who is sent away by their father. Celie eventually finds her voice and her strength, and she is able to overcome the abuse and find happiness.

The musical premiered on Broadway in 2005 and was a critical, as well as commercial success. It won two Tony Awards, including Best Musical, and it was nominated for eleven. 

The Color Purple is a powerful and moving musical that tells the story of one woman’s journey to find her voice and her strength. It is a story of hope and resilience, and it is a story that will stay with you long after you have seen it.

The Color Purple is directed by Blitz Bazawule and stars American Idol’s Fantasia Barrino as Celie in her feature film debut. While Danielle Brooks (Orange is the New Black) plays Sofia. Filling out the rest of the star-studded cast is also Taraji P. Henson (Hidden Figures), Halle Bailey (The Little Mermaid), Louis Gossett Jr. (Iron Eagle), and Corey Hawkins (BlacKkKlansman). The film also stars David Alan Grier (The Carmichael Show), Colman Domingo (Zola), Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor (King Richard), Deon Cole (Black-ish), as well as music icons Grammy Award Winning H.E.R., Ciara, and Jon Batiste.

The Color Purple arrives in theaters on Christmas Day 2023!
