Willem Dafoe feels like he would fit in perfectly in the world of Beetlejuice.
Luckily for us, according to The Hollywood Reporter, hes’ joining the cast of the sequel Beetlejuice 2. The movie began production this week with Tim Burton back in the director’s chair. While we don’t know any plot details, it’s said that Dafoe is playing a law enforcement officer in the afterlife.
The long-gestating sequel to the 1988 hit for Tim Burton begins filming soon. Tim Burton is back in the director’s chair alongside Michael Keaton as Beetlejuice, Winona Ryder, and Catherine O’Hara. Newcomers include Justin Theroux and Jenna Ortega. Ortega will play Lydia Deetz’s daughter in the film. It’s unknown who Theroux is playing at the moment. It was also announced that Monica Bellucci would play Beetlejuice’s wife in the film.
Outside of that, plot details for the film are under wraps until filming starts. The movie will release in theaters on September 6th, 2024, taking over the date from Marvel Studios’ Blade, which shut down production due to the ongoing Writer’s Strike.
The original Beetlejuice was a runaway success at the box office and drove Burton into the stratosphere of stardom as a director. It was made for $15 million and brought in $80 million at the box office. That film spawned an animated series and a musical in addition to other merchandise.
Jenna Ortega is fresh off several star-making performances in Scream 5, Scream VI, Wednesday, X, and You. Wednesday was among the most watched shows in the history of Netflix when it aired last year. Her turn in the Scream franchise has seen back-to-back box office swoons for the horror series.
Michael Keaton is starring in the upcoming The Flash as an alternate universe version of Batman.
