After months and years of development, starts and stops, false starts, and anything else, we finally have a release date for Beetlejuice 2. Warner Bros. has set September 6th, 2024 as the theatrical release date for the sequel to 1988’s Beetlejuice. The new film will reunite Tim Burton with Jenna Ortega, who previously worked together on Wednesday. Sources indicate that Ortega will play the daughter of Lydia Deetz, who was played by Winona Ryder in the 1988 film. Michael Keaton is expected to return in addition to Ryder.
UPDATE: Justin Theroux Joins Cast Of Beetlejuice 2
Deadline is reporting that Justin Theroux has joined the cast of the upcoming Beetlejuice 2. There’s no word on what his character will be.
The original Beetlejuice was a runaway success at the box office and drove Burton into the stratosphere of stardom as a director. It was made for $15 million and brought in $80 million at the box office. That film spawned an animated series and a musical in addition to other merchandise.
Outside of that, there aren’t many details about the plot of the film or who else is starring in it. Filming is expected to begin in London next month, so we’ll likely get more details around that time.
Jenna Ortega is fresh off several star-making performances in Scream 5, Scream VI, Wednesday, X, and You. Wednesday was among the most watched shows in the history of Netflix when it aired last year. Her turn in the Scream franchise has seen back-to-back box office swoons for the horror series.
Michael Keaton is starring in the upcoming The Flash as an alternate universe version of Batman.
We’ll keep you updated on this story as it develops.
