Pass the marmalade – we’re going to Peru! The next Paddington film officially enters production this summer.
Deadline reports work on Paddington in Peru will begin July 24. Plot details about the lovable bear’s third feature remain under wraps; for now, we just know the movie will see Paddington travel back to his homeland of Peru for more adventures.
Paddington 3 comes from previous installment collaborators Paul King, Simon Farnaby and Mark Burton with a screenplay by Burton, Jon Foster, and James Lamont. Music video/commercial director Dougal Wilson will make his feature directorial debut with the movie.
“After ten years of working on the Paddington movies, I feel absurdly protective of the little bear, and I’m delighted that Dougal will be there to hold his paw as he embarks on his third big screen adventure,” said King. “Dougal’s work is never less than astounding: funny, beautiful, heartfelt, imaginative, and totally original. Aunt Lucy once asked us to ‘Please Look After This Bear.’ I know Dougal will do so admirably.”
“As a huge fan of the first two films, I am very excited (if not a little intimidated) to be continuing the story of Paddington,” said Wilson. “It’s a massive responsibility, but all my efforts will be focussed on making a third film that honors the love so many people have for this very special bear.”
The first Paddington film premiered nearly a decade ago in 2014. Fans and critics alike praised the movie, which landed two BAFTA nominations. Three years later, sequel film Paddington 2 premiered, with many fans saying it was even better than the first. (You will often find me personally making reference to “cinematic masterpiece Paddington 2.”)
We don’t have an official confirmation of the cast just yet; however, it seems likely that Ben Whishaw will return to voice Paddington himself. Principal cast members in the previous two films also included Hugh Bonneville, Sally Hawkins, Julie Walters, Michael Gambon, and Hugh Grant.
