After scolding Hollywood for not believing in animation as a medium after his win for Best Animated Feature at the Oscars, Guillermo Del Toro is back at it with some casting news for his upcoming version of Frankenstein. According to Deadline, Andrew Garfield, Mia Goth, and Oscar Isaac are in talks to star in the movie. Netflix is producing, and Del Toro will write and direct the picture.
They caution that Del Toro is still working on the script and no formal offers have been given to any actors, but that he has met with all three, and each is on board to star.
Frankenstein has been a passion project for Del Toro. He’s always wanted to make a movie based on Mary Shelley‘s novel. However, it’s unknown if his version would be a period piece or a modern one. It’s also unknown who would play which character, but it’s said that Goth would play Doctor Frankenstein’s love interest.
All three actors have been incredibly busy over the past couple of years. Isaac has recently worked on Moon Knight for Marvel. Andrew Garfield is coming off an Emmy-award-nominated performance in Under The Banner Of Heaven. Mia Goth took the horror world by storm with performances in X, Pearl, and this year’s Infinity Pool.
Either way, this development is fascinating for Del Toro’s latest project. Oscar Isaac or Andrew Garfield as Doctor Frankenstein would be magnificent. We’ll keep you updated on this story as it develops.
