We got news that Antoine Fuqua was doing a Michael Jackson biopic from the producers of Bohemian Rhapsody a couple of weeks ago. Now, Deadline is reporting that Jackson’s nephew, Jaafar Jackson, will star as Michael in the film. He’s the son of Jermaine Jackson, who is the brother of Michael and was in The Jackson 5. Jaafar has been a singer and performer since he was 12 years old. The film, titled Michael, has a script from John Logan. Graham King is producing, who turned the Freddie Mercury story into Bohemian Rhapsody.
According to sources, the film will not shy away from the controversies throughout Michael’s life like pedophilia accusations or the drug use in his later years, that ultimately ended his life. The Michael Jackson estate gives rights to his music catalog, but their presence could lead to some washing away of the harsher details in his story.
They also have to dive into the rough childhood that Michael had at the hands of his father, Joe Jackson.
Fuqua is currently finishing up The Equalizer 3 with Denzel Washington and will then turns his attention to this later in the year. We’ll have to see what kind of tone and how the film turns out when we get more information.
