The long-awaited debut of the MCU version of the Fantastic Four might have found its new director. Spider-Man director Jon Watts was originally set to helm the film but exited the project in April. This left things unclear for the last several months as to who might be stepping into the directors’ chair. According to multiple reports, it appears Matt Shakman, will be taking over the director duties for the Fantastic Four.

SHAKMAN BRINGS THEIR VISION TO MCU

To fill the director void, Marvel Studios did not have to look too far. Shakman has done some notable work already in the MCU by directing all nine episodes of WandaVision. Which also earned Emmy nominations, including a Best Director nod for Shakman. It’s been said there was a strong comfort level for Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige with Shakman. Which is completely understandable, making this selection a logical one for Marvel. WandaVision successfully launched the MCU Disney+ series strategy that has only gotten larger since. Outside of the MCU, Shakman has worked on Game of Thrones, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, and The Great.

Details on the Fantastic Four film are still very limited at this time. However, fans did get a tease of Marvel’s First Family with a cameo by John Krasinski as Reed Richards in the latest Doctor Strange movie. Aside from that, the only real detail revealed is that the film would kick off Phase 6, and debut on November 8, 2024. Now that a director has been named, fans will be eagerly waiting for more news on casting for the film.
