The She-Hulk press conference was full of new details and behind-the-scenes info on the show. She-Hulk releases on Disney+ this Thursday, August 18th! The press conference was moderated by Amanda Salas and featured Tatiana Maslany (Jen Walters/She-Hulk), Ginger Gonzaga (Nikki), Kat Coiro (Director Of Episodes 1-4 & 8-9/Executive Producer), and Jessica Gao (Head Writer/Executive Producer).

This group was fantastic and gave PLENTY of details about what went into the making of the show and what we can expect from it. here are some of the highlights from the She-Hulk Global Press Conference.

Comedy Is A Focus

Tatiana Maslany started off by mentioning how exciting it was to step into the courtroom for the first time. She-Hulk isn’t just an action fest, it has those set pieces, but we also deal with She-Hulk swipe dating. Jessica Gao had this to say about what sets Jennifer Walters from the other ladies of the MCU:

We have more time to work with in a series. Tatiana makes her feel like a real human being, she has life experiences, she changes throughout the day, it’s a real person that feels things.”

Jessica Gao

Kat Coiro had this to say about the cinematic feel of the show:

It’s a half-hour legal comedy, but it’s also this cinematic long-form series.

Finally, on the comedic aspect of She-Hulk, Jessica Gao had this to say:

The comedy was a priority. What’s great about having an incredible cast, it feels like cheating as a writer. I was more focused on jokes, but they made them feel like real people.

Trailblazing But Making It Personable

As for the fourth wall breaks that She-Hulk is famous for in the comics, they weren’t originally just Jennifer speaking to the camera. Jessica Gao had this to say about the early version of the fourth wall breaks:

“At one point there were ‘Editor’s Notes’ like text boxes on screen, like in the comics, instead of breaking the fourth wall”

Tatiana Maslany gave us this detail about Jennifer Walters and what drew her to the role:

“It was her conflict between She-Hulk and her normal life that drew me to it. This thing happens to her, and she has to contend with this whole new expectation placed on her”
