I am no stranger to romcoms. No one is a stranger to romcoms. We all have our favorite rom-com tropes. Typically, a fake relationship into a real relationship – The Proposal or Netflix’s Holidate – isn’t one of mine. Yet somehow Wedding Season makes me love it anyway.
WHAT IS WEDDING SEASON?
Asha is a type-a woman focused on her career when her mother creates an online dating profile for her. In order to get her to take it down, they strike a deal that Asha has to go to every wedding of the season and go on at least one date. This is where we meet Ravi. Ravi has also been pressured by his parents to date. So, they decide to pretend to date, attend the weddings, and move on. However, fate may have other plans.
WHAT THE MOVIE GETS RIGHT
Wedding Season has a great cast in its leads, Pallavi Sharda and Suraj Sharma (How I Met Your Father). But what sets this film apart is that no one is forgotten. Some of my favorite laugh-out-loud moments come from the supporting cast of Asha’s best-work friend and her boss. Even Ravi’s best friend, Yoshi has some great moments! The parents are also a riot.
I also appreciate the lack of conflict between siblings and family. Too many films have sisters constantly fighting, and family grudges. Wedding Season feels much more real and less dramatic.
I’m also obsessed with Asha’s styling throughout the film. Every outfit and Saree are absolutely stunning!
THE ONLY MISS FOR ME
While I really enjoyed the movie, I felt the leads were lacking chemistry. I love seeing characters fall in love in romcoms. However, it read more to me like Asha and Ravi were homies and not lovers.
