The Gray Man‘s release was a wild success for Netflix this past weekend. It went to #1 in 92 countries, and now Netflix is cementing that success with more films and a spin-off series. A sequel to The Gray Man with Ryan Gosling and Directors Joe and Anthony Russo is in development with co-writer Stephen McFeely returning to write the screenplay. In addition to that, a spin-off written by screenwriters Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese is set to explore a different element of The Gray Man story. That logline and story is under wraps for now.
The Gray Man is based on the series by author Mark Greaney. Here’s what some of the people behind The Gray Man had to say:
The audience reaction to The Gray Man has been nothing short of phenomenal. We are so appreciative of the enthusiasm that fans across the world have had for this film. With so many amazing characters in the movie, we had always intended for the Gray Man to be part of an expanded universe, and we are thrilled that Netflix is announcing a sequel with Ryan, as well as a second script that we’re excited to talk about soon.
Joe and Anthony Russo
With The Gray Man, the Russos delivered an edge-of-your-seat spectacle that audiences around the world are loving. We’re excited to continue to partner with them and the team at AGBO as they build out The Gray Man universe.
Scott Stuber, Head Of Global Film At Netflix
THS gave The Gray Man a very favorable review saying about the action in the film “On the level of action sequences, The Gray Man fits right in with Mission: Impossible and Hobbes and Shaw. The film goes over the top with the action, but it never verges into completely breaking the suspension of disbelief.” We gave it a 97%, it’s truly one of the best action films of the past couple of years.
