With the success of Top Gun: Maverick, a crossover with the equally as successful Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown game seems natural. Frankly, I’m amazed that it took this long to happen, but sure enough, it is. How do I know this? Well, there’s the official trailer that just got released for it. Check it out below:

A Meeting of 2 Skies

Ace Combat fans’ reaction: “Finally!”

IGN just released that official trailer above on YouTube. The trailer basically showcases the official collaboration/crossover DLC between Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown and Top Gun: Maverick. The DLC itself basically consists of new aircraft based on the F/A-18E/F Super Hornet that Tom Cruise flies in the film. I must say, it seems the Ace Combat team have managed to reproduce that fighter aircraft in the game pretty well, judging from its appearance.

Even better though: the trailer even reveals when that DLC will take off. Apparently, the Top Gun: Maverick aircraft set will become available in Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown on May 26, 2022. As of this writing, that’s only a week away, so you won’t have long to wait for it. The DLC’s name also implies that it will have more than just the custom F/A-18E/F Super Hornet in it. The trailer even hints at these other aircraft near the end, when we see that aforementioned Super Hornet flying in formation alongside other 3 other Super Hornets (unpainted), a Mirage 2000, and a Su-27. It may not be the full list of aircraft in the DLC, but it’s a nice teaser regardless.

Top Gun: Maverick ~ Details

Okay, I’ll admit: this film looks awesome, even in spite of Tom Cruise.

Top Gun: Maverick is the sequel to the 1986 Top Gun film, and it’s about time. 36 years is a very long time to make audiences wait for a sequel. It’s been so long, in fact, that this sequel had to get a new director. Joseph Kosinski (Tron: Legacy, Oblivion) directed the sequel instead of Tony Scott (Top Gun, Crimson Tide, Enemy of the State), who passed away in 2012. The sequel still stars Tom Cruise in the starring role of Captain Pete “Maverick” Mitchell, alongside Miles Teller, Jennifer Connelly, Jon Hamm, Glen Powell, Lewis Pullman, Ed Harris, and Val Kilmer.

As for what Top Gun: Maverick is about? Well, the official trailer from Paramount Pictures has a synopsis for it in the video description. Check it out below:

“After more than thirty years of service as one of the Navy’s top aviators, Pete “Maverick” Mitchell (Tom Cruise) is where he belongs, pushing the envelope as a courageous test pilot and dodging the advancement in rank that would ground him. When he finds himself training a detachment of Top Gun graduates for a specialized mission the likes of which no living pilot has ever seen, Maverick encounters Lt. Bradley Bradshaw (Miles Teller), call sign: “Rooster,” the son of Maverick’s late friend and Radar Intercept Officer Lt. Nick Bradshaw, aka “Goose.” Facing an uncertain future and confronting the ghosts of his past, Maverick is drawn into a confrontation with his own deepest fears, culminating in a mission that demands the ultimate sacrifice from those who will be chosen to fly it.”

Top Gun: Maverick will launch in theaters on May 27, 2022. You can pre-purchase tickets for it on Fandango.
