Marvel revealed today that production is officially underway on the upcoming Disney+ series Echo.
The series centers around Maya Lopez, the gang leader set on vengeance against Ronin in the Hawkeye series. Alaqua Cox reprises her role as Maya.
Along with the production announcement, Marvel revealed a first look at Cox in character as Maya on set. You can check it out below.
As far as set pics go, this one doesn’t exactly reveal much. We don’t get too much of the setting, and Maya looks essentially the same as she did in Hawkeye.
According to Marvel, the series will follow Echo’s origin story, as Maya’s ruthless behavior in New York City catches up with her in her hometown. She must face her past, reconnect with her Native American roots, and embrace the meaning of family and community if she ever hopes to move forward.
In addition to Cox, the cast of Echo includes Chaske Spencer (Wild Indian, The English), Tantoo Cardinal (Killers of the Flower Moon, Stumptown), Devery Jacobs (FX’s Reservation Dogs, American Gods), and Cody Lightning (Hey, Viktor!, Four Sheets to the Wind), with Graham Greene (1883, Goliath) and Zahn McClarnon (Dark Winds, FX’s Reservation Dogs).
Directors for Echo include Sydney Freeland and Catriona McKenzie.
Marvel recently finished airing its series Moon Knight on Disney+. Next up on the MCU-Disney+ slate will be Ms. Marvel, premiering June 8.
Echo will premiere in 2023. Until then, you can rewatch Hawkeye on Disney+ to see Maya’s MCU debut.
