It appears that the drought of Star Wars video games is seemingly over. Between great games coming out in the past like Jedi Fallen Order and remakes and remasters of the classic games, we’re in a new era for Lucasfilm Games. Now, according to the official Star Wars Twitter, we’re getting a “richly cinematic action-adventure with an original story set in the legendary Star Wars galaxy” from Skydance New Media.
Skydance New Media is led by Amy Hennig, whose credits include Legacy of Kain, Jak and Daxter, and Uncharted. So the game is in great hands narratively and creatively. Here’s what she had to say about working on a Star Wars game.
I’ve often described how seeing Star Wars in 1977 essentially rewired my 12-year-old brain, shaping my creative life and future indelibly. I’m elated to be working with Lucasfilm Games again to tell interactive stories in this galaxy that I love.
Douglas Reilly, Vice President of Lucasfilm Games had this to say:
We couldn’t be more thrilled to be working again with Amy. She and the Skydance New Media team have the talent and ambition to create a unique Star Wars adventure. Their vision for making narrative driven and engaging interactive entertainment makes this collaboration very exciting. We’re working hard with their team of experienced and talented developers, and we’re looking forward to sharing more with Star Wars fans when the time is right.
Who Are Skydance New Media?
Skydance New Media was founded in 2019 with the goal of making AAA titles and highly interactive cinematic-style games. The studio doesn’t have a title out yet, but they do have another property on the way involving Marvel. So they’ve got their hands full with two of the biggest and most successful IPs in the world.
We’ll have to see how their Star Wars game goes, but with a creative in place like Amy Hennig, it’s in good hands.
