DC’s Blue Beetle has found its villain. It was previously thought that Sharon Stone would play the villain Victoria Kord in Blue Beetle, but now, our friends at The Wrap are reporting that Susan Sarandon has signed on for the role. DC’s first superhero film to star a Latino character is bringing together star Xolo Maridueña and director Angel Manuel Soto. Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer wrote the screenplay.
Sarandon joins a cast that features George Lopez, Adriana Barraza, Elpidia Carrillo, Damian Alcazar, Belissa Escobedo, Bruna Marquezine, and Harvey Guillen. The film releases in theaters on August 18th, 2023.
Blue Beetle is a title that’s been held by three separate characters in the DC comics, but this film focuses on Jaime Reyes, the third and most recent character to hold the mantle. The villain, Victoria Kord was created just for this film and hasn’t appeared in comics before.
We’ll have to see how the film turns out when it releases in theaters. Blue Beetle was originally part of a plan by DC Entertainment to beef up their offerings on HBO Max. However, the plan was changed to release it theatrically.
