Oh, boy! Quantum Leap is coming back to our small screen, and I for one am super excited. However, with the casting announcement of Dr. Ben Prassad, we have some huge shoes to fill!

QUANTUM LEAP Dr. Ben Prassad CASTING!

I am a HUGE fan of this series. Seriously, Quantum Leap is my favorite show of all time. I know the entire opening monologue by heart.  I’ve also had my own reboot idea that centers around Sam’s daughter, but whatever. That’s not what they went for even though it was right there. We’re going with another male lead doctor and it is what it is. Now, the biggest question is who is going to fill Scott Bakula’s shoes? Not only do we need someone who is a great actor, charming, and smart, they also need to be able to embody anyone they leap into. The casting breakdown also says they’re specifically looking for MENA and AAPI actors. So, I’ve got a few casting ideas.

FIRST UP, Sendhil Ramamurthy

As soon as I read the breakdown, he’s who I thought of IMMEDIATELY. Sendhil is best known as Dr. Mohinder Suresh on Heroes. You can also find him in flashback scenes as Devi’s father in Never Have I Ever. I think he is a GREAT casting choice. He’s got the acting chops, he’s incredibly charming, and brings that same boy next door thing that Bakula did. 

Rahul Kohli

This is a NO BRAINER! Kohli’s character Ravi on Izombie is basically Sam Beckett. He’s funny, grounded, and has already dealt with an absurd world with realism. Make. Kohli. Happen!

Uli Latukefu

You may know Latukefu as Bayamba in Marco Polo, but I was introduced to him at college-age Dwayne Johnson in Young Rock. He is hilarious while also being incredibly grounded in the series. I think he’s a casting choice that goes against stereotypes of what one might initially imagine a physicist to be.

HENRY GOLDING

I mean, come on! Snake Eyes, Crazy Rich Asians, and Last Christmas are all you need to see that he’s perfect! The action adventure, brains, charm – he’s got it all! Yes, he’s also a box office superstar, but maybe the idea of being cast in a steady television gig would be appealing.

STEVEN YEUN

If you’ve watched The Walking Dead you too fell in love with Glen. After leaving the series, Yeun went on to do some other phenomenal work. Have you seen Okja or Minari? I mean, he was nominated for an Oscar! He can absolutely pull off playing all the different people Ben will be leaping into. I say YES to casting him.

RIZ AHMED

Yes, the Emmy Winning, Oscar Nominated incredible actor! I know this is super dream casting. While yes, Ahmed is mostly known for dramatic roles I feel he absolutely has the ability to level up this series. We’re not looking for a carbon copy. I’d love the character to have some edge. 

LAST, BUT NOT LEAST HAAZ SLEIMAN

I first fell in love with Sleiman on Nurse Jackie. Then, he popped back into my world in Eternals! As nurse Malik, he showed he takes no shit, but also has an incredibly softer side. In Eternals, we see a touch of heart and comedy all rolled into one. I think he’s a great casting choice!
