Chris Evans and Dwayne Johnson are ready to bring you laughs, thrills, and a little holiday cheer, all rolled into one film. The stars will lead an upcoming project from Amazon Studios titled Red One.
Unfortunately, specific plot details for the movie are being kept under wraps for now. Deadline describes Red One as “a globe-trotting, four-quadrant action-adventure comedy.” In other words, a big movie the studio wants to cast a wide net with, drawing in as many viewers as possible.
The movie comes from an original story by Hiram Garcia, Seven Bucks Productions’ President of Production. Following a competitive bidding war last year, Amazon Studios landed the rights to make the film. Chris Morgan, known for his work on the Fast and Furious franchise, adapted the story into a screenplay.
“Red One is incredibly special to me and a story I’ve wanted to tell for years,” said Garcia. “An epic, edge-of- your seat, action adventure that takes beloved holiday mythology and turns it on its head. I’m thrilled to have our Seven Bucks team join forces with Amazon to bring this fun Holiday tale to life for a global audience.”
Jake Kasdan will direct Red One, and also serves as a producer. Kasdan previously worked with Johnson on 2017’s Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle.
Johnson announced his involvement with Red One back in June, and praised Seven Bucks’ partnership with Amazon. “I’ve been very impressed with Jen Salke and her team’s vision and ambition to create an enormous, fun and unique Red One holiday universe for families around the world to enjoy,” Johnson said.
Johnson recently starred in Netflix’s similarly titled Red Notice. He’s slated to make his debut in DC’s Black Adam soon.
Evans recently appeared in Rian Johnson’s Knives Out, and will soon release The Gray Man as well as Pixar’s Lightyear.
Red One is slated for a 2023 holiday release.
