HBO Max’s series And Just Like That… begins after Mr. Big’s funeral asking questions about where we go and what do we do after the one we love is gone. So, what exactly did When in Rome show us? Let’s find out.
And just like that…The Past comes back to bite you
In this week’s episode of And Just Like That we see Carrie is doing relatively well after Big’s passing. That is until Big’s will is read. And, surprise surprise, he is leaving Natasha (Bridget Moynahan) a million dollars! Sex and the City fans will remember Natasha is Big’s ex-wife who he chose over Carrie for a bit.
This information sends Carrie into turmoil because why would Big leave Natasha so much money? Were they having an affair as they did? Were they in touch? Carrie goes a bit crazy to the point where she actually goes to Natasha’s work. In the end, it turns out that not even Natasha knows why he left her the money. The two women realize it may be his way of saying sorry for all he did to her and not being good with words. So, he left money instead. And, just like that…Carrie has her happy-sad ending again.
What happens with everyone else
During the episode, there are a few hints of side plot lines. Two of which involve Miranda. The first touches on her drinking problem. Charlotte finds a few shooters inside her backpack, empty. The second is about Miranda and Che; Carrie’s Podcast Co-Host. The problem is Miranda is married to Steve. However, according to her, they are more like roommates now than a couple. Who knows what will come of it seeing as Miranda is now stepping out of her comfort zone more and more.
Miranda isn’t the only one dealing with struggles. Charlotte is dealing with a little issue of her own. Rose, the daughter she has tried to connect with, says she does not feel like a girl. Charlotte, who is the most conservative of the trio, is trying to find the proper way to handle this new information.
And so I thought…
Of the first three episodes, I feel like this episode is pure filler only serving as a way to get Carrie back to her old apartment. While it was refreshing to have some of the old Crazy Carrie back watching a grown 55-year-old woman stalking her husband’s ex just felt sad. Sad that Big pulls another one of his classic jerk moves as he has done multiple times before. Carrie does not deserve that.
Also, can I just say I love Che played by Grey’s Anatomy alum Sara Ramirez! I think she has become a great friend to Carrie in such a short time. Che offers her support and helps her better herself for the podcast. Plus, she is pretty funny. However, I don’t know how I feel about Miranda and Che’s storyline, just because I love Steve. They have gone through a lot already. So, yeah, I want them to live happily ever after! The one I actually do not care much about is Charlotte. Do not get me wrong, I love her but she can get annoying at times. I do hope the writers help her learn and to handle the situation with Rose well.
That all being said, I am enjoying this series so far. It is in no way like Sex and the City, but it is still fun to watch. We get glimpses of our girls and their old antics but in the end, they have grown up and they are trying to deal with that. It is fun to see them navigate this new world just like the rest of us. I am anxious to see what is to come especially for Carrie. Keep tuning in every Thursday on HBO Max to see what is in store.
