To any Quantum Leap fans reading this, rejoice! For Scott Bakula himself confirms that the show isn’t as forgotten as people think it might be.

No time like the present to make a reboot, eh?

During one of Bob Saget’s Here For You podcasts, Scott Bakula (who played Quantum Leap main character Dr. Sam Beckett) confirmed that the powers that be have not forgotten Quantum Leap. At least, not entirely. JoBlo.com notes that Bakula didn’t reveal everything he knew about what’s happening with the show. What he does reveal though, is very interesting:

There’s very significant conversations about it right now going on. I don’t know what it would be. I don’t know who would have it. The rights were a mess for years. I don’t know if they’re even sorted out now. That’s always been the biggest complication.

Scott Bakula has also mentioned having several talks with Donald P. Bellisario, the creator of Quantum Leap, about bringing the show back though. The conversation inevitably turned to Dean Stockwell as well, given that he played deuteragonist Rear Admiral Albert “Al” Calavicci, USN, in the same show. Specifically, Bakula said about Bellisario:

And he would always say, ‘I can’t write it without thinking of you and Dean [Stockwell].’ I said, ‘Just think about me and Dean and write your show. Get it out there. If you have an idea, just write it. I am sure it will be great. I don’t know what that idea would be if we did.

Quantum Leap: The Reboot?

Still one of the best time-travel stories, along with Back to the Future.

Commenting on what Scott Bakula said about this Quantum Leap reboot, I feel like it’s more theory at this point than fact. Bakula has confirmation that talks are going on, but he isn’t privy to what those talks are actually about. Bakula has pitched the idea to Donald Bellisario, but mentions nothing about what became of those pitches. Honestly, I think that even if the show is getting a reboot from NBC, we probably won’t be seeing it for a while.

But this is just speculation until we hear word from someone official on the subject. Take it with as many grains of salt as you like. In the meantime, you can watch the entire Quantum Leap series for free on NBC.com right now.

Conclusion

Scott Bakula confirms that there are talks going on for a Quantum Leap reboot. He isn’t privy to what those talks are about though. So far, it only seems like there’s plans for plans to make a reboot. Nothing concrete yet. We’re just going to have to wait for any official world from NBC at a later date about this sci-fi classic.
