Missy #3 Review

In issue #3 of Missy, our favorite mischievous Time Lady goes on a romp through space and time with her former regeneration in tow. 

The pair venture into their past (and once accidentally, their future) in an effort to find the hidden key. The result? An almost clip-show-like chapter, revisiting iconic moments in Doctor Who history.

This issue is fan-servicy in the best way. As Missy travels back along her timeline, we’re treated to some highlights from both classic and modern Doctor Who. (And arguably some lowlights – remember that time the Master went all cannibal for Christmas? Yeah, we’re going there.)

It’s almost a Mystery Science Theater vibe sometimes, with Missy and the Master watching scenes play out and providing a bit of snarky commentary. I don’t want to give away too much about all the appearances. It’s more fun to experience them as you’re reading! But suffice it to say there’s something for everyone, from way back to the Delgado Master era to the most recent episodes of Doctor Who. 

And while Missy ultimately finds what she’s looking for, she should have realized keeping track of her former self would prove difficult…

Overall the Missy series continues to delight. The mischievous Time Lady’s characterization is on point, and the steady stream of Who references keep fans engaged. Really the only question remaining… Will Missy’s final showdown happen with the Doctor? Or with another version of herself? 

We’ll have to tune in to the final issue next month to find out!
