Creepy, kooky, mysterious, spooky? It’s time to meet your new Wednesday Addams. Jenna Ortega will play the character in the upcoming Netflix series.

The live-action comedic coming-of-age series will follow Wednesday’s time as a student at Nevermore Academy. Wednesday’s attempts to master her emerging psychic ability, thwart a monstrous killing spree that has terrorized the local town, and solve the supernatural mystery that embroiled her parents 25 years ago — all while navigating her new and very tangled relationships at Nevermore.

You can see Ortega’s Instagram post announcing her casting below.

The series comes from executive producer/director Tim Burton. Smallville’s Al Gough and Miles Millar serve as EPs and showrunners. Wednesday will stream on Netflix.

Wednesday has been a cultural icon for years as part of the overall Addams Family. The spooky family have featured in a number of films and TV shows throughout the years. But this will be the first time Wednesday has a solo venture.
