Justin Simien is jumping into the Haunted Mansion. The director will helm Disney’s latest feature adaptation based on the theme park ride.

Simien is known for his work on the Netflix series Dear White People and Hulu’s horror/thriller Bad Hair. He joins producers Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirich (Aladdin) and executive producer Nick Reynolds. Katie Dippold (The Heat) penned the most recent draft of the script.

Disney’s Haunted Mansion ride debuted in 1969. It’s now a fan-favorite at both Disneyland and Disney World. The ride takes guests through a creepy manor house full of spooks. Disney previously adapted the ride into a 2003 feature film starring Eddie Murphy.

And of course, Disney has adapted its theme park rides into films before. The Pirates of the Caribbean became a massive box office hit, creating a multi-film franchise. Fans can also look forward to The Jungle Cruise, premiering this summer.

As for what this new Haunted Mansion flick will look like, we don’t have the details just yet. Insiders say however it will be a completely new take and a standalone film.

So, are you excited to see Simien’s take on the Haunted Mansion? What do you want to see in the movie? Let us know in the comments.
