If you’ve watched some of the top sci-fi, fantasy, and superhero films in the last three decades, chances are you’ve seen a John Eaves creation.

Now, the concept artist will receive a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Art Directors Guild.

“For the past 36 years, John’s work as a Production Illustrator has been an integral part of over 100 films and television shows,” said Tim Wilcox, ADG Illustrators & Matte Artists Council Chair. “From props, to sets, to vehicles, to gadgets, and, most prominent and recognizable, a small fleet of starships for the Star Trek franchise, John has inspired many and left an amazing mark on our industry. We celebrate his creativity, talent, and contributions to the Craft.”

Eaves created illustrations for four Star Trek movies. You can also see his designs come to life in the MCU in films like Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Spider-Man: Homecoming, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, and Iron Man 3. Eaves also worked on Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides.

Additionally, Eaves has used his talents as a concept artist, model maker, and prop designer for superhero flicks Ant-Man, Ant-Man and The Wasp, Iron Man 2, and Batman Forever. Love the Die Hard and RoboCop sequels? Godzilla: King of the Monsters? Eaves worked on those, too. His most recent TV credits include Star Trek: Picard and HBO’s Watchmen.

Eaves’ work in the last three decades earned him several other awards, including 4 from the ADG.

He will receive the Lifetime Achievement Award during ADG’s virtual ceremony Saturday, April 10.

Eaves is the last of four Lifetime Achievement Awards to be announced by the guild. The other recipients include writer/director/producer Ryan Murphy, production designer Stuart Wurtzel, and set designer Martha Johnston.
