Freaks and Geeks will be coming to Hulu on January 25, 2021. As of this writing, it’s only five days away, so you don’t have long to wait. All 18 episodes of the show’s first and only season will be streamed on the service, so if you only watched the original 12 that were aired on NBC, you’re in luck.
Freaks and Geeks: Keeping On Rocking On
Even better, Freaks and Geek‘s premiere on Hulu will feature its original soundtrack. Why is this so important? Well, the series used a lot of licensed music from the era to add that little bit of authenticity to it. These includes songs from such famous singers and bands like Billy Joel, the Grateful Dead, Styx, The Who, etc..
And with such famous personas, you know who wants ludicrous amounts of money to feature their music in Freaks and Geeks? If your first answer was “the record companies”, congrats! You get a digital cookie.
In fact, Freaks and Geeks used up much of their entire budget just to acquire the right to use all that music in the show. The rights for the music actually became so problematic that no one wanted to make the DVD version with the original soundtrack. They actually preferred to alter the music cues to non-copyrighted music and sounds to avoid paying to clear the music rights. Thus far, only Shout! Factory has released the whole series with the original soundtrack, so good on them.
Conclusion
Freaks and Geeks will be streaming on Hulu starting on January 25, 2021. If you have nostalgia for the old days of 1999-2000, or if you just want to see a critically acclaimed show, head on over to Hulu on that day. Or if you have a Disney+ account already, you can try out a Hulu account from there.
