If you’ve been waiting for something to capture the family-friendly adventure and flat-out fun of Spy Kids and Sharkboy and Lavagirl… your time has finally come.
The creator behind those movies, Robert Rodriguez, will drop a new feature on Netflix this Christmas.

Yes, that’s THE Sharkboy and Lavagirl, now all grown up.
In We Can Be Heroes, alien invaders kidnap Earth’s superheroes. That forces their kids to team up to save their parents (and the world) instead. Sharkboy and Lavagirl are among the kidnapped heroes, and their daughter Guppy will be one of the kids taking up the heroic rescue mission.
The kids have their own unique powers which they’ll use to battle the aliens. (And the grownups who try to stop them.) The trailer feels very nostalgic. We Can Be Heroes really seems to capture the vibe of Rodriguez’s other family films.
The cast includes Pedro Pascal, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, and Christian Slater. Plus original Lavagirl Taylor Dooley reprises her role.
We Can Be Heroes hits Netflix December 25.
(Psst…Netflix also has the original Sharkboy and Lavagirl. Sounds like a double feature to me!)
