A new Scream movie is in the works, however it will be a while until it arrives. The new movie in the 90’s horror franchise isn’t set to be released until 2022. Despite being so far away, details have already begun to leak about the movie. One interesting detail is that due to the script not being finalized yet, the production crew are intentionally keeping the cast and crew in the dark about who is the killer.
Scream producer William Sherak revealed in an interview with Cinemablend.
I think the two things to remember for us. One is there are multiple versions of the draft out there and most of the cast don’t know if they have the right version or not. So we’ve been playing that game with them as well. And the fun of a Scream movie is that everyone is guilty until proven innocent, not the other way around. So the goal is to keep that going for as long as possible and have fun with it.

It sounds like Sherak is simply having a bit of fun with the cast and crew in a spirit keeping the franchise. One of the constants throughout the Scream franchise that separates it from other horror franchises is the killer is never the same. In each movie the killer behind the iconic scream mask is a new person.
Can Scream Killer Be Kept Secret Until Release?
This also creates new challenges for the team. In the era of instant messaging and leaks. A horror movie’s killer being revealed before the movie. Something that is now as common as knowing who the movie’s stars are. Could have a drastic effect on the movie’s box office. This actually happened with Scream 2. When the internet was still in it’s infancy the movie’s ending leaked on message boards. No doubt the producers want to do whatever they can to keep the identify from spreading.
