David Fincher and Netflix have a very profitable and well established relationship. Fincher’s next film, Mank is set for release in select theaters in November and on Netflix on December 4th. The film chronicles the events surrounding famous critic and screenwriter Herman J. Mankiewicz as he writes the screenplay for Citizen Kane.
Taking one look at the film, it’s easy to see that this isn’t your normal biopic. It stars Gary Oldman as Herman J. Mankiewicz. Amanda Seyfried plays Marion Davies. Lily Collins plays Rita Alexander. It’s a film that looks to center on the involvement of William Randolph Hearst in getting Citizen Kane smeared. Finally, it’s written by Jack Fincher, who is the father of David.
Trent Reznor is doing the score for the film. Fincher and Reznor have created quite the partnership with their films and they both show how important a good score is to a film. You can check out more on the film at Netflix.com/Mank.
The film is the first for Fincher since 2014’s Gone Girl. It’s his longest break between shooting a film in his career. The film is going to have a classic look and feel because the sound and film are going to be using older techniques. While it’ll be filmed on a state of the art, RED Monochrome Monstro camera, it’ll retain the look of the time period. Moreover, this should add to the look and feel of the film.
